Door Latch Adjustment?

Hey guys, well im getting down to installing the door handles and exterior parts on my car and I am having a problem with the drivers side door latching all the way closed. I have installed new weatherstripping on each door and this morning i started to install the drivers side door handle, striker, and door lock. I have everything installed correctly on the door and have the striker installed. The problem is when i go to close my door the latch catches but will not close the door 100%. The drivers side door sticks out about 1/4 of an inch and i am not sure how to solve this problem. I know the new rubber on the door is creating a tight seal, but i dont know why the latch isnt closing all the way. There is some play in it. Is there any way to adjust this latch?

You can adjust the striker a little which might help.

^ What he said. Take your time though, make small adjustments and close the door slowly when you're checking it. Just a few tips from watching other people screw it up. Lol.

Thats what i have been doing. The striker doesn't go in enough though. it needs to go in at least another 1/8" before it would even be close. My father had an idea to file the hole for the striker in a little so there would be room for more adjustment.

I dont know how to tell if the latches are worn or not though. It is coming together great otherwise.

Is the door latching to the second latch point? Meaning you can hear the latch click once for the safety catch, then again for the fully closed position.

No it will only click once. Even when i play with the latch with a screw driver, it will not make that final click to seal the door totally shut.

If you can't engage the latch twice with a screwdriver and the door open, it's bad, try cleaning and greasing it, adjusting the striker won't do dick until your latch can operate proper, which is two closed positions.

The new weatherstripping was too think on 2 parts of the door. I had to shave down some of the new excess rubber for the door to latch closed 100%

After keeping the doors closed for a few days, they seem to close much easier. Can anyone recommend a decent weather stripping glue to secure the sides and front and where to get it?
