http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2012/01/18/first-saab-automobile-among-the-120-cars-being-sold-from-saabs-museum/?refer=news It looks like curtains for Saab....Shows you foreign makers aren't immune to the economic recession and to the changing auto industry. I owned a 900 waay back when...and it was very reliable! I loved the oddness of it...it was a 5 speed, went everywhere and sipped gas! Tranny finally went after 180k....I'm gonna miss seeing those odd cars!

That's too bad. I rather liked those cars, they were fun to drive. Saab the aircraft company is still around right? |

I believe so....They were separate to begin with, even though they have the same origins. When GM bought Saab, they only bought the car part..... |

S-Some A-Automobiles A-Are B-Better ...i just made that up in 2 seconds . Saab went under b/c gm recognized a failing child, and this was the fortunate case of a child being left behind that warranted it. Even their own country couldn't afford to rescue them. Were the old school ones cool, to an extent but owners were usually loyalists like vw owners. Unlike Italian ship captains, they were the ones to go down w/the vessel but not the ones that would buy 1 every few years. They were overpriced in the end and didn't have a 'niche' into the market, save for the occasional hippie that didn't want to get their crotch wet in the rain riding their vespa. Cars had little to be desired, parts were expensive and styling was odd but got better in the later years. They were their own company, no off shoot or similiar platforms like every other gm car. When i think of saabs, i think of wooden shoes (yes, i know its dutch) but just as comfortable to the retina's as the latter...man i want to write for automotive magazines soooo bad. |

I worked for Saab for nine years and I will say this they where the best company I ever worked for, the problem that Saab had and always did up to now that sunk them like the Costa Concordia was the bad marketing (not an italian captian). They where very a head of there time in almost everything in there design, they just didn't know how to market it properly. And yes they did build jet fighter planes, I dont know if they sill do but they did when I was working for them. |
