Looks like electric cars are breaking into the low tens and possibly nines at the drag strip...which got me thinking....

What would you rather own? A car with a gas motor that sounds like a monster? Or an electric car with the equivalent power, but is dead slient?

I like my gas motor and lumpy cam thank you very much.

Although the electric car is intriguing... Instant torque response, but would be so quiet that people would not hear it and know to get out of the way. I'd probably buy one 10 years from now and slap a huge foghorn on it from an oil tanker ship... :lmao:

tbh id want a gas motor with a silent exhaust.. im not big on super loud cars. less attention from the cops, the better(not that im doing anything wrong). but you get the idea. im going with the electric car on this one cuz ive seen some badass concepts

i wouldn't mind a Volt for everyday, electric motors don't require much to keep then in good working order. As for a hobby car i'd prefer a gas engine.

When electric cars go faster then fuel cars I might consider it.

Also I live by the gearhead bible, how to go as fast as you can the cheapest.

The motors might not take much to maintain, but try buying a battery pack for one of those suckers. I'll stick to traditional gasoline. I can hear the engine talking to me, what its doing, what's going wrong, parts are far cheaper and more readily available. That and a good lumpy cam in a decent size engine through the right pipes gives me a chubby.

I rebuild AC and DC electric traction motor all day 5 days a week in the electric motor shop for the LIRR. Both AC and DC are both pretty simple but AC motor require even less maintenance then the DC motors. Once battery prices come down I'm pretty sure most cars of the future will move to electric motors. They have insane and instant torque, I'm a hugh fan of a small block but I'd bet the future is with electric motors.

No thanks not yet. The technology today requires constant charging, more often than fill ups at the gas station, and takes much longer to charge compared to 2 minutes at the gas pump.

We own a hybrid, 50mpg in a daily driver is a great deal. Don't have to charge it, the gas motor charges it.

No hybrids in my price range will ever do it for a hobby car. Under 200hp is no hobby for me.

The Ariel Atom is available in a fully electric version powered by a lithium ion battery pack. It tops out at 120mph and beat the Gallardo in 0-60 times. Pretty badass but not enough to qualify as a hobby car for me.

Like a G6
i love the sound of a mean v8....but driving a hybrid car for a little bit was extremly....."fun" dare i say it. dead silent at red lights, or pulling up the driveway, can make a quiet escape. I would lease a leaf or electric car, not own one because like everyone else, idk how long the battery would last or how much $$$ it is to replace it

Who are the 3 tree huggers that voted Electric?
Remeber, Electric cars still run on fossil fuels. Where do you think electric is generated?
Green = Scam, For the purpose of creating a carbon emmision world tax marketplace.
Still cheaper and actually more green to drive a regular gas powered car.
