Where to go for a full paintjob?

Sick 6!
Hey guys. So I'm working on finishing my 1991 RS. It's almost time for it to go into paint, and I have a question for you all. Where should I have it painted, a local body-shop, or the local Maaco "spray and go". I've worked at the body shop before and the guy does phenomenal work, but at a price. For identical work Maaco quoted me in at $1650 - $1957.12, while the body guy quoted me for $3550.00. I would do most of the work myself, but I've since lost access to equipment/space, so having someone else do it is the only way to go if I want the car painted before summer.

He's charging you that much just to spray it after you do the prep work. And if you paid any attention when u worked there you wouldn't even consider macco

You get what you pay for. MACCO is good for a paint job to last a few years but then you are stripping the car and doing it right a second time.

You have to ask yourself 1 thing....are you planning on keeping this vehicle and showing it and it being garaged? Or are you not certain on keeping it in the long run, it'll be a driver w/the expected bumps/bruises attributed to everyday driving? I've gotten cars painted at a ton of places, and for non high dollar sprays on vehicles that aren't worth that much, no one can beat maaco....depending on the shop, they do a very good job esp the one i go to in Jersey. If i was to repaint my vette or my wifes car if it needed touching up, i'd go to a normal body shop as i strive for perfection to match the factory finish or for that show car shine. Up to you but price out several body shops and local guys that may be up to it. I have a guy by me that i heard is great, works outta his garage and does it on the side for cash. Also check your pm.

:yup: mines a maaco for $600 and its fine by me! stays outside all year, paint almost 3 yrs old and its doing fine thus far, i keep it waxed up. if u just wanna have fun in a decent looking car then maaco will do it quick n cheap

everybody else flames maaco....and yet alot of the club is still impressed by my paintjob. not everyone needs a $3000+ paintjob

I would like a reccomendation for my car as well as to where to get it buffed up and polished, also a few areas need touching up as well as a few spots I think needed to be sanded down more before they were painted. Whatever. But really it does need to go back within the next year and there's some things with the paint job I had done that I just would not want to go back to the place I got it done at.

If this is the Macco across the street from Sals Fruit tree. Its actually a good place if you talk with the franchise owner. he can and will do a good job. A few of my friends brought there Fox Body Stangs there. Decent jobs.
But again, Like Glen said. You do get what you pay for!
