Soffseal Weatherstrip; Doors

I received my soffseal door weatherstripping the other day and decided to install them yesterday.

Upon first inspection they looked real nice. Soft, pliable, and great quality. Upon further inspection I noticed that they did not come with the hard backing inside the material that the OEM stuff had. Now this is my first time replacing weather strip on this car so I do not know if any of the other manufactures come with the hard backing where the screws go.

Install went like a breeze, each push pin lined up correctly and went right in the holes with no problem. Everything seemed to be fine and I was extremely happy until I got to the passenger side door on the forward facing piece that screws into the door. It seemed as if this seal was about a inch too long causing there to be a gap between the strip and the door. I guess its nothing a little glue cant fix but it was quite annoying trying to figure it out. Seems like a quality control issue but not something I am going to go as far as to return.

Overall I have to rate this product a 8 out of 10. It looks nice, and of good quality. I took off a few points for no plastic backing and the fact one was slightly to long. But I had to add a point back because at 57.95 shipped they were about 30-40$ cheaper than hawks, and 1aauto. Not to mention they took only 2 days to get to my house.

And this is what I was talking about on the passenger side.

I used softseal for my t tops. I thought it was a great product. Did you by any chance leave the passenger side in the sun while doing the driver side? Could account for the expansion

Nope both where done last night within a few minutes of each other. Photos where taken today. No shrinkage or expansion. Not at all dissapointed with the product though, especially for what I paid. If these where 300$ OE gm seals they would have hell to pay.

I used the same shtuff sofseal on everthing t-tops doors hatch sweeps I even made up new spots to seal. overall Im pretty much satisfied, got mine through ecklers camaro. I know what you mean with the hard backing but these aftermarket ones are much thicker than the stock ones. I also found this stuff on ecklers camaro its a brake silicone that you can, in bagel terms, shmear on every month or so it helps make a good seal protects them from the elements and keeps them looking fresh. or you can just use armorall.
also just figured Id throw this out there use washers if your going to do the sweeps with rivets I got lazy towards the end ran out of washers an kept going and now a couple of the rivets fell through the hole in the sweeps all the other ones are fine though.
ok anyway good luck yo. :smokingdope:

Put the same weatherstripping on my car and had the same issue as you did. I just glued the srtip to the door and called it a day. I am not building a show car so I didn't really care about that small issue. Overall, I liked the product and would use it again. The only other thing I came across was when I first closed the doors, it would take a little more push on the door for it to close.

^ definitely they are a bit thicker. I still have the OE screws for the sweeps.

I have their door seals and where the screws go it was ripping. I plan to get new ones under warranty

Yea I figured that would happen. What I am going to do is use weatherstrip glue to seal a plastic washer to the face of the strip where I can. Hopefully it will prolong the thin areas from ripping under to much stress.

That's why you need a washer, or some kind of backing.

forget the screws and use a couple dabs of weatherstrip adhesive on the end piece and some push in clips

^ AWESOME idea! Have to drill out the holes a bit but that's much better and cleaner than the screws.

Clips would probably help to prevent the weatherstrip screw holes to rip
