Growing List of Pet Peeves; .......why is it called a "pet peeve"

I am guilty of "calling someone out" based on what I think they actually mean. Not as bad as you describe, more like I usually can tell that someone is going somewhere if they start off a sentence a certain way and will say "but..." as they start to trail off, since I think it's hidden in there. Also the same with someone who says something, then is like "wait, nevermind" if I think it's deliberate. There's a pet peeve right there. Some people say something and change their mind in terms of asking you to do something, but when they start to talk about something that's bothering them and then trail off it annoys me. I'm deliberate about that and only do it if I wouldn't mind telling the person or want them to be curious, so I hold other people to it as well, even if it's just a dumb habit of theirs. Naturally, I nag them until they tell me, but it still annoys me.

I hate Internet providers.. <_< Travis, in case you were wondering, the reason I left so suddenly last night was because my Internets stopped working.. I couldn't reconnect, so I figured I'd try again today. It works now, but I gotta call my cable company. I think my bill is due up anyways.

If you lead someone on to paraphrase or finish your thought, then that's fine. And I also allow some wiggle room, obviously, since nobody really does have the time to get to completely understand all of their contacts' mannerisms. I usually put things in terms of "maybe/probably/might" and "definitely" when I talk. I don't usually think it out, but I rarely take back any calls that I make. For general real life, I don't like to speak with too much certainty. Even when someone asks me if I see a specific friend and I see said friend walking down the hallway, I'll say, "Yes, that's probably them...", even if it's impossible to mistake someone else for them. There is something too abrupt and boisterous about certainty when talking, I think.

But the things that fall into that "definitely" group are my conscious thoughts and feelings. I don't consider the unconscious mind to be a factor; I think Freud was a nut and that the unconscious is probably not as malicious as he makes it out to be. Granted, when you get to the bottom of it, our realities are pretty much constructed by our brains (for all intensive purposes), but I'm talking about the stuff that falls beyond what people can perceive with their senses. I know that chamomile tea tastes like grass; I don't need someone telling me that it tastes like chocolate (in other words, not what they perceive it tastes like, but me).

I think Freud was a nut and that the unconscious is probably not as malicious as he makes it out to be.

Uh, well, I get the feeling sometimes that the unconscious, while not malicious, is certainly an extremely fucked up place as far as I'm concerned.

Case in point: Last night I dreamed that I had been turned female. It's a long story, and I don't even know what prompted it.

But yeah, ok, I'll elaborate on this later probably, but there is one guy that I absolutely cannot stand - he alone is worthy of a pet peeve. I'm pretty sure everyone who's ever met the guy can't stand to be around him most of the time. Let me list the reasons why he's a horrible person:

- He's a dramafag (like, he does theater)
- Therefore, he's melodramatic about everything
- He always makes wisecracks in class, which nobody EVER laughs at
- Evidently he thinks he's pretty smart and chummy with us
- He has pretty much the ugliest hairdo I think I've ever seen
- He's actually pretty close to being a hambeast as well, he's kinda chubby
- He considers himself a gamer when he's really a total lamer, I could probably whip his ass at everything outside of Halo 2, which even then I think I'd probably fare well (auto-aim for the motherfucking loss)
- According to my friends, he's quoted movies like Monty Python and the Holy Grail so much that he's literally "ruined the movie" for them
- AND THE CLINCHER: A couple years back, some friends of mine found loli on his computer. Yes, that's right. LOLI. As in, anime child pornography.

Problem is, no one else has the guts to tell him how much of a loser he is. But I guarantee that if I don't, then somebody else will sooner rather than later.

EDIT: Well, uh, I guess I did elaborate on it.

O lawdy. Loli? Ick.

I don't see a huge problem with dramafags. Some of my friends are them. But they're not overly dramatic. And yes, I do know that some of them can be annoying. There's this one who can't stop talking. He's just a motormouth. I mean, nice guy, but a total motormouth. He's kind of oblivious and sentimental. Like, he figured out that I was adopted and was like "Awww..." for the rest of the period. Seriously.

The unconscious isn't well-known. Consciousness sure is a slippery place. There's no real way to even prove that you can have a conscience, is there? You can say, "I think, so I have a normal state of consciousness", but that's introspection. We can look at brain scans via MRIs, PETs, etc, that mark changes in these states, but we can't actually link them to anything without saying what we observe when we look inside mentally. So consciousness itself is controversial, and even moreso is the unconscious. There's a lot of different opinions, and there's definitely no real right one, but mostly everyone agrees that there is an unconscious. I tend to view it as being composed of mental processes out of our awareness. In other words, things that our bodies do for us. We don't really consciously blink, breathe, make our hearts beat, and so forth. Also, I don't think we necessarily can always choose our emotions; there are some pathways that seem to be directed to the amygdala, I think. But I'm skeptical over the ever-raging battle between the Id and the Ego, and I don't think that they work at odds against each other like Freud says.

Oh fuck, man. I know people like this! I swear to fucking God I do! Grrrr

I have people like that in my art class and my theatre class. Oh yeah, I'm in Theatre now, ha. But I don't usually get so melodramatic about everything. I actually have fun with it and I make other people have fun too. I make wisecracks in Theatre, but the teacher loves 'em and at least half the students. We have two non-conformists (that list you made is a good description if you don't know what that is).

But man, I hate it when people sit there and quote movies and then they brag about how many gold ostriches they have in FFVII. Two reasons why that pisses me off - one, it shows they have no life. Two, I can't ever get a gold ostrich, but now I don't want one because of lame fucks like that.

Heh, bragging about video games? That's funny. I mean, I got skills, but I don't really brag. And when someone brags about their whatever crap from Final Fantasy, I just turn to them and tell them, "Yeah, well, my characters are level 255 in Star Ocean, so beat that."

It's not a lie, either...

Ok, so I'm really having a pet peeve with only having three or four members post. See, the thing is that I want to do this thing called The Wolf Game (also known as Mafia or Village in some circles).

Problem is, we need like 15 active posters to even get a field for the game. I read these on other forums and they're really awesome.

The basic premise would be to have, in a game of 15 people, three werewolves. They seek to get rid of the humans. However, the humans don't know who the wolves are. Even so, the humans have special people hidden among them that can help them kill the wolves. But yeah, if we ever get that many people...

THEN I'D LOVE TO BE THE FIRST HOST

Welcome to my world, bub. I'm sure if Rachel would stop by once in awhile to say hi or even show she's been here, maybe I could have a hope of getting her to help out, but alas.. no luck.

As far as actually having members, well... when you figure out the trick, do me a favor and let me know, eh?

Well, before we never really seemed to have anything that would warrant activity. With this whole idea of making games and stuff, and with a bit of publicity...just a little bit...I think we could get some members.

The problem, of course, is publicity. If you're going to make a game, you'd better make damn sure that at least some people know about it.

I mean, we have this same problem every time. See, we would have had a much better time if, even from the first site that we'd ever made, we'd had a following from a previous site and gained some popularity amongst our peers, then we'd have a stronger base of more active posters.

So, the most logical step is to try and convince other people on other forums to come here. Sounds like a tall order, I'm sure. I know for a fact none of my friends would be interested in forums.

It just always seems to devolve into basically an AIM chat over forums between three or four of us. Put bluntly, it really really sucks.

I agree. As I said with the help, I can't do this shit on my own. But my helpers keep disappearing. Rachel was supposed to be one of the main ones, but hell I dunno what happened to her.

Travis is busy being a DD for his mother, so I can't blame him there. In a sense, he has a logical excuse. Right now, I'm just tryin to get some money to where I can build this RPG and maybe with that, I can give the file and serial number to other people (Travis would so far be the only bidder - no one else has offered to help) so it can get done faster - more levels and maps in less time. The program I need for the RPG is $100, which is outrageous, but not as bad as buying Maya 7.0 and building the son of a bitch from scratch.

For the record, I adore Maya, Poser, and whatever else. Hahaha.

Well, you could do what everyone else does and pirate. If you feel you can.

I'd agree on getting people here first, but that's the problem. There's nobody that anybody brings. Ever. I only have a few friends that actually forum, and most wouldn't come here, I think. Only other person I spend time with is Anonymous, but I won't even go there. If Nameless ever borders extinction, I'd go carry the word over there. 'Til that time comes, I don't know, it doesn't seem like there's much I can do.

As for my personal friends... the regulars are pretty much out of the question. Some of them are slightly weeaboo with no intelligence, but I keep them around anyways. A lot just don't know how to do the forum thing, and I have no interest in teaching them. There's a small select handful of computer nerds that I hang out with, as well as /b/tards, but they're all pretty much busy with stuff...

That's kinda the same here. Most people I know are either not for the forum thing or they don't know how, or both. And like you, I don't really wanna teach them. However, I'm almost to the point where I'd have to. Bringing people here first would be the trickiest part. I say, make a small demo, post it, then advertise it all over the place and when people can join they can give feedback of what they want.

I was reading on the website of RealmCrafter that if you have team members helping with the MMORPG, everyone has to buy their own copy. I say fuck that. I'll pay for it, and then nicely give it to those who will help.

Everyone has to buy their own copy? That's total bullshit. I have RealmCrafter...just not a crack for it. I might find one sooner or later though, and then you wouldn't have to spend all that money. It'd probably be worth it, but you should be able to explore every facet of it before buying it, which most demos don't let you do. I like FPS Creator, but I don't feel it's worth 50 bucks, especially when expansions are 20 each for a small amount of content. Yeah, it works and it's easy, but it's not great, the physics and general combat could be refined more. Hopefully RealmCrafter is better, but hopefully I can manage to find a crack anyways.

I don't really feel the "bringing friends" method works. Yeah, they may join, and maybe post a little, but then they leave almost every time. At Nameless, Kairi is pretty much the exception. Everyone else DM has brought registered, posted a couple times, and vanished. When it seemed like Spriteaholic was going down(unfortunately it didn't) Ertwin was the only person to stay. Theoretically you'd think friends of posters would be far more likely to stay and post, and since that's not true in reality that's completely lame.

Once a game demo is done, maybe something will happen then. I'm sure if you were completely desperate you could make a Final Fantasy fan site and get a few people, but that's artificial and there's no integrity in it. I could probably do the same, but yes, it's lame. If/when/if the comic is ready, then Nameless has unique content. Once the game is ready here, then there's unique content. Until then, I suppose random things like my reviews are nice, but aren't unique per say(though I will still write them anyways), so they won't draw people.

Haha, fansites.

Some fansites are actually quite good. Most of them are not, though. But if you get your act together before things hit the U.S., then you have a chance. Once the good fansites are established, there's really no chance. So I don't think FF would be that good to do a fansite on, since there are a billion other good ones out there.

Thing is, we don't really have any insiders, though. There's no real things that have yet to his the U.S. that will certainly become big. I guess Haruhi is one, but there's already the S.O.S. Dan website, which is pretty much it.

Either that, or it's a matter of doing something incredibly common in an incredibly uncommon way. That's more difficult. You can do it, but it's just hard. I really have no ideas.

One thing about fansites is that there can be too many, but there can also be too little. Haruhi, for instance, may have that one big site, but people also like variety. If you have a few good sites based on one anime, there you go.

If you have RealmCrafter (I dunno how the hell you did it, but damn I want it) I can still see if I can find a crack for it (virus free and everything :o )

I've had it for a couple months, during my downloading spree that started after getting FPS Creator. Well, that was pretty much it, but I attempted to find and download several different RPG and FPS makers. I'll send it to you if I see you soon(preferrably), and if I don't I'll upload it to Nameless. I love the theory of uploading, but it's so damn slow, it's kind of discouraged me from filling up my hosting with random crap.

That's a good point, that site may be big, but if it was number 1 in a search engine, there will be other results, so being number 2 wouldn't be so bad. Obviously Kairi would have to head that area since the rest of us are unfamiliar with it, and it doesn't seem like something that could be a main theme of the site, but it could be a nice draw on the side.

There's a lot of things that can be that way...

And I'm online now, so you're more than welcome to send it to me. I'm on AIM. My MSN is being used by a private account for Nell. The MMORPG demo would be a good starter to at least show people what it would be like. Yeah, advertising on other forums might not be a bad idea as long as you can do it subtlely.

Certainly, if it's out there, you can pirate it and crack it or whatever :P. And if you can't, someone on the internet can. I have a friend who was handing out disks of Photoshop and Illustrator in class, casually. Like, cracked and all. Lulz. Perhaps obtaining other programs wouldn't be as easy, but doable, sure.

I'm of the opinion that this site shouldn't be anime-related, really. It would have to be all Haruhi or none; the anime might only be 14 episodes, but the light novel, which is the best, is still going at 9 volumes. It's best to leave it up to another site and let them have their day. :P Unfortunately, I don't usually catch wind of things long before they arrive in the U.S., but if I do, I'll probably mention it someplace.
