I am a Ciaphas Cain, Grey Knights, and Horus Heresy fan mostly. I have a few other randoms but mostly stay loyal to the Emperor of Man.

Cool. Really liked the Grey Knights stuff but was put off by endings which seemed a bit simplistic and 'hollywood'- A good read nonetheless. Some of the Horus stuff I haven't reread and some are tattered and worn. As you said before, the random authors makes some of it hit and miss. Some stuff like the Alpha legion story 'Legion' I came to really like after being a bit shmeh at first. Other stuff like Battle for the Abyss I just can't really dig (except that intro) :)
Did you ever check out Ian Watson's Inquisition War collected volumes?

You must read them. They will raise your thought process and bring your mind to a whole new world.

I am a chess player of decent caliber. What makes you think I am not already there ;)

And should I remind you I am the Demon Lord of Destruction?

Ian Watson wrote 2 shorts and 3 novels following an Inquisitor named Jaq Draco and his adventures. This was early 90s and he was the first to really tackle the 40k universe. It's really interesting reading the intro where he talks about how he tackled it. He used some stuff that most writers wouldn't dare try like the Golden Throne itself and the Black Library.
The 3 books were Draco, Harlequin and Chaos Child.
Highly recommended!

fun is the aim.

Watch the throne.

Grimm: don't miss out on the Eisenhorn and Ravenor trilogies (should be read in that order). Dan Abnett is basically king.
